A FREE mediation session for private clients?

The Ministry of Justice has just announced (20th August 2014) that they will fund a FREE mediation session for private clients where the other client is legally aided.

This means that, in practice, if you aren't eligible for legal aid but your ex-partner is, you will get not only a free MIAM appointment, but also a free mediation session.

Once you've seen a mediator WE contact your ex....

Over the years clients have often told us that their ex-partner won't be interested in mediation and there isn't really any point in contacting them. However, we have found that when we contact the ex they are, in many instances, quite keen to find out more.

Following your meeting with a mediator we can write to your ex and invite him/her to mediation.  The mediator can follow up with a phone call.  It will all be discussed with you before we take any further action.

Applying to the family court? From the 22nd April you will be required by law to consider mediation.

Separating couples or anyone thinking of going to court in relation to a dispute over children or property and finance issues will need to be aware of changes to the Family Courts coming into effect on the 22nd April.  The Children and Families Act 2014, passed last month, has introduced:

1) the requirement* for separating couples to attend a meeting to find out more about mediation before taking disputes over children or property and finance to court

'Quick Start Mediation' comes to Hertfordshire!

Successfully used and very popular with clients in other parts of the country, we are delighted to launch 'Quick Start Mediation' at our St Albans and Stevenage offices.

'Quick Start Mediation' does what it says on the tin: you go straight from your joint assessment meeting into first mediation session (if the case is suitable) on the same day, minimising delay.  This is quicker than the usual route into mediation which can take a few weeks.

We celebrate our 10th birthday this year.

Happy 10th Birthday to us in May this year.  In the run up we'll be planning a number of events to mark this milestone.

In some ways it seems a long way since May 2004 when Harmony Mediation first opened the doors to clients looking for a different way to sort out their practical arrangements on divorce or separation.  Now, with almost 6,000 referrals behind us, we have built a strong service with a wealth of experience which we continue to use to offer help to those clients who approach us.

Why being a social enterprise mediation service is important to us.

Harmony Mediation is the first social enterprise mediation service in the UK. We are run along business lines with all surplus funds reinvested in the service for the benefits of our clients.

In brief being a social enterprise means we:

Want to find out about mediation? Drop in and see us.

Next week (25-29 November) is National Family Dispute Resolution Week.  We will be running 'drop in' sessions where anyone can call by to meet a mediator and find out about family mediation.  It will all be very informal!

The 'drop in' sessions will take at our St Albans office at 110 Victoria Street on Thursday 28th November from 11-1 or in the evening from 6-8pm when we will have a Commuter Drop-In.  Our office is a few minutes from St Albans City Station.

Have you got child contact arrangements on your 'to do' list for Christmas?

Preparing for Christmas can be stressful and busy but for separated parents the worry about child arrangements can add another level of pressure.  Parents can end up in a vicious cycle: they know they have to have a difficult conversation but put it off, knowing that putting it off is making things more difficult!

£530 + VAT Fixed Price Family Mediation Proves Popular

Three 90minute sessions with a qualified, accredited mediator; a full set of outcome documents; all phone calls and administration with NO extra charges: no wonder our discounted family mediation package (£530 + VAT - per person) is proving very popular!  Not only that, but if your mediation breaks down we refund you up to 75% of what you paid.  We can afford to do this because we are a not-for-profit social enterprise.

See the 'What it Costs' page on this website for further details.
