ACCESS TO MEDIATION (Children issues)

As mediators we are only too aware of the value of family mediation in helping parents come to arrangements for their children.

In some countries children issues family mediation is so valued by society that it offered free to everyone. We agree that access to mediation should be as wide as possible.     (Click 'Read more')

Where people are eligible for legal aid we will direct them to a service that can help.   However, with recent changes to legal aid fewer people meet the strict and stringent criteria.  We are very concerned that some parents who would like mediation are simply unable to afford the fees.  We would like to address this with our 'Access to Mediation' programme, being introduced from May 2017 as part of our social responsibility policy.

Designed for cases where one parent is on a low income (below £30,000 pa) we are offering up to 50% reductions on standard fees to try to extend access to family mediation in children cases. The total fee for the case (not per individual) for the pre-mediation meeting and a one hour mediation is just a fraction more than the cost of sending an application form to court.  You may also be aware that you can't apply to court until you have attended an appointment with a mediator.

We are offering the 'Access to Mediation' programme on a trial basis and it is only available at our St Albans office. Please phone 01727 812464 for more information.  (Mention 'Access to Mediation' to help us identify the appropriate guidance for your case.)
